This is a call for input for a brief survey on local policies or programs to support startup community development. I use the term "policy" loosely to mean actions not just by governments, but also by additional actors involved in provisioning "public goods" or funding for local entrepreneurship (e.g., economic development agencies, foundations, chambers of commerce, non-profits).
I am particularly interested in policies or programs that:
Enhance bottom-up, community-driven solutions (e.g., inviting entrepreneurs and community builders into the process; empowering existing actors or activities rather than dictating new ones from the top down); and
Embrace the unique role that entrepreneurs, as change agents, play in shaping and leading the development of startup communities around them (e.g., identify and enable entrepreneur-driven solutions; promote and expand entrepreneur-to-entrepreneur mentoring or investment relationships).
This survey will inform research on economic development via entrepreneurship to be published later this year by myself and Rhett Morris. Participation, of course, is optional, as is disclosing your name or contact information. Should you participate, please submit your response no later than May 15, 2020. Willing participants may be contacted for follow-up. The survey should take no more than 15 minutes to complete.
